Devotional Review of Mr & MRS, 366 Devotions For Couples.

Dear Reader,

It is time for January’s devotional review, and I have a guest reviewing with me! I am quite fond of this person as he is my husband, Greg. I will attempt to intertwine our reflections on this devotional to start off the new year.

Where we found this book and why we selected it.

Greg and I visited a local paper and printing store. No, these establishments are not extinct—yet. As I chatted with the store owner, my husband perused the gift portion of the store. It was there he discovered a selection of devotionals. (Remember, I can not call them books, as books are books, but a bound selection of devotions is called a devotional. Confusing–I know!) But I was excited to see several titles I have not seen before and to see ones in person I had seen online.

Greg picked up one and, after inspecting it, placed it in my hand. It was a devotional for married couples. His countenance seemed inclined to want to read it with me, so I purchased it.

Greg: I would like to add that I liked the idea of a couple’s devotional. Devotionals have always been a personal endeavor I have done for myself and God. I enjoy reading Mr&Mrs because it is specifically for a husband and wife. Reading a daily devotion is a completely different experience when shared with my wife.

A bush with a heart carved through it.

What did we love about it?

First, it was written for couples. We knew it would touch on topics that are deeply personal and sometimes confusing for husbands and wives.

Second, I loved the look and feel of the devotional. The soft cover copy is a lovely grey-blue, with a vertical, thinly lined texture and gold lettering for the title. The page edges are gold, too, and have a ribbon for marking what date you are on. I have seen online that there are other covers and options for Mr&Mrs, so if you are interested in purchasing it, be sure to notice there are color cover options and a hardcover one too.

Lastly, each devotion is dated January 1, January 2, etc. There is a daily title, verse, three paragraphs of explanation, and reflection, followed by a prayer. They are a short, impactful, daily read that naturally leads to some conversation with each other on the daily verse and reflection. And as Greg put it, “It goes deep quick—there is no fluff. It reveals solid insight for a strong or struggling marriage.”

What we didn’t like about it.

This is, so far, a five-star devotional; we haven’t seen anything to dislike.

Who would want it?

Anyone who’s married.

Greg and I believe, Mr&Mrs would bless couples who have just begun their marriage and those who have been married for decades.

Who would not want it?

Someone who is not married.

Did it bear fruit?

Yes.

Greg shared that because of Mr&Mrs, we spend a few more minutes together, intentional time, reading it in the morning. He went on to say that because it is a 366-day devotional, it makes this commitment of intentional time together for one full year. (Isn’t he a sweetie?!) I am enjoying the fruit of reflecting upon our marriage through God’s lens and our experiences.

Full Disclosure

We have NOW finished Mr&Mrs as the 2023 year came to an end. Would you like to join us and purchase Mr and Mrs* for yourself? If you do, we would love to hear how it is blessing your marriage too. Greg and I might provide a more complete review in December. Stay tuned!

Updates

After posting last week’s blog post, a neighbor shared with me about a local luncheon this Monday, when a speaker will share about Human Trafficking.

A bit nervous about the event, a natural side effect of being an introvert; I am grateful to attend the luncheon/speaking event with my neighbor.

I hope to share some things about the experience here for you to read.

  1. What a nice guy to do that with you. The closest I’ve come to sharing a devotional is critiquing them, which is always fun, plus I get the benefit of being blessed by someone else’s insight and experience.

I would love to hear from you! Say unto others as you would have them say unto you.
